thank you, bea arthur, for being a friend

we at found were very sad to hear of  bea arthur's passing.

we knew her best as the lovably wry dorothy zbornak from this fabulous, golden quartet.

it's difficult to know how to honor such a lady on a shop blog, so we have decided to re-name a sofa in memoriam.  formerly known merely as the 'long and lean sofa', she will now be called 'long and lean, a sofa fit for bea arthur.'

i hope you don't mind my saying that i think it would've looked nice on set, while providing seating for all four housemates.

silhouettes

Perusing one of my favorite blogs a few weeks ago, I was reminded of my affinity for the silhouette. Classical yet graphic, this style of portraiture seems to be quite en vogue. Take a look at this wallpaper I came across at Osborne & Little last week. What fun it would be in a powder room, especially when you realize the subjects are flocked!

Here at Found, we have two aubergine paper silhouettes of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Although I am not so certain they were great pals back in the day, I think they look pretty good together, no?

Our Muses

As you may know by now, Tyler and I adore fashion and are often inspired by it in our designs. Revered fashion designers often credit their muses for each season's inspirations. I learned after visiting the DeYoung's exhibit on the career of Yves Saint Laurent that French beauty, Catherine Deneauve, was his muse throughout his career.

Although some may find Hermes to be quite a serious fashion house, one known more for their fancy handbags and patterned scarves, their muse was decidedly bohemian. Jane Birkin was awarded her own namesake bag she was so fabulous. Oh, to be that lucky.

Well, the 'House of Found' now has their own muses which we will draw endless inspiration from. Ours are not celebrities. No, they are not famous.

Although the portrait is quite intimate, we actually never had the good fortune of knowing these ladies but I imagine them to be forces to be reckoned with. We have have hung them behind our desk here at Found and I would like to get on a first name basis with them....any ideas? Our good friend and customer, Megan DeWeerdt, prefers 'Donna and Georgia'. I am on the fence with 'Celeste and Diane'. Tyler is into 'Anjelica and Gigi' (a pretty amazing combo, that last one).

Readers, we'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

leopard, it's finally happening

Back in January, I posted a little diddy of my love for leopard fabrics.  I included an image of this ottoman, which illustrates how leopard upholstery (in small doses) can be tres chic.

Well, I am finally acting on my desire as Tyler and I have agreed to re-upholster a set of four sweet dining chairs that were recently acquired for Found.  We are transforming them from 'agreeable and innocent' to chairs with a wild side, albeit ladylike.

The winning fabric is Brunschwig & Fils 'Les Touches' (which also comes in a splendid red color way).  It is a nice lightweight cotton, perfect for the summer months ahead.

We will be sure to post the 'after' images once they are complete.  Stay tuned.
